Music Prompt ~ Love Me Like You Do

I didn’t know
How could I guess
That it would be like this?

Who would have thought
That behind the shyness
There was a beast?

There was the bow
And the huntress
Who upon love feasts.

And she brought forth the darkness
I never knew love held within
And she called upon the wilderness
The freedom my heart was harbouring.

Love is a war
I never knew
Where the winner takes all

We went so far
Where all was new
And so hard was the fall

There is the scar
That her blade drew
My heart no longer whole.

And she brought forth the darkness
I never knew love held within
And she called upon the wilderness
The freedom my heart was harbouring.

Now she is gone
Lost forever
Who said that love was light?

I am undone
And my lover
Left behind only night.

Gone is the sun
Altogether
I’m alone with my plight.

And she brought forth the darkness
I never knew love held within
Never will I reclaim that shyness
Behind which my true self was hiding.

This is so beautifully haunting,,the repetition causes the emotion to become magnified. You have depicted the feelings of love and loss with such elegance – its an unforgettable poem. Thank you so much for participating 🙂

Thank you very much. I rarely do poetry: but in truth, it started with the beginning of a melody and if I were any good at composing I might turn this into a song.
The interesting thing is that, as I reread it I can hear it sung either by a man or a woman.
