Abecedarian ~ Sandstorm Journey

A desert wind
Blew across the sands
Catching its grains in a whirl of
Dust scratching their skin. Still
Elegant, despite the heat, the woman he
Followed did not appear ready to
Give in and stop under a shelter.
He would try and convince her to stop and rest
In one of the tents they carried but the
Jade-eyed woman would not wait. The
Knowledge that beyond that sand storm
Lay the sacred heart of the desert realm
Made her audacious. That the locals had
Not tried to stop her from going
Onward with her journey and even
Proffered help had done nothing to
Quell her curiosity. His duty was to help her
Reach her destination. He may not understand, but the
Seer at the temple had been adamant.
The woman was the answer to their woes.
Ultimately his mission was to protect her from any
Violence. So far only nature and the desert
Winds had offered any threat. And yet, the
Xeric lands surrounding her did not frighten her.
Yielding to his feelings and faith, the
Zealot waited for the reincarnated goddess to reveal herself.

I did not expect that ending! The whole poem feels like a philosophical, fantasy novel, rolled into very powerful verse. The ending really struck with me.

    1. Thank you very much. The plan wasn’t to end there, but sometimes the characters do take over. So really the ending surprised me as well 🙂
