Burn Out

Cass was a nightmare in white silk and pearls.

Most people didn’t see it that way; they believed Sarah was jealous and ungrateful. Cass was gorgeous, she was plain. Cass succeeded at everything she did. Sarah was more of a failure, someone you didn’t really want to be associated with. Someone who got lucky to have Cass as her boss.

Ok, so maybe she was a bit jealous. But mostly, Cass had made her life miserable since she was hired. Cass was her trainee; but within weeks she’d convinced the boss she was better suited for her job. She was given it. And she treated Sarah like a slave. “Go get me coffee!” “Why haven’t you sent me this report? I asked for it ages ago.” More like yesterday…

When Cass was promoted to VP, she insisted Sarah be her secretary. Maybe because she knew Sarah would never outshine her. No… Not lazy, frumpy, awkward, boneless Sarah who had suffered through everything.

Sarah looked down as red spread on the white silk and the pearls scattered on the floor. She didn’t resist when they took the gun from her hands and cuffed her. Cass was her nightmare no more.
